Day 19 – Arlie Beach to Yepoon (499 km)

Another quick ride through Arlie Beach in the morning before I head further south:

Today was only going to be another short ride of 200-ish kms. However, when I got to Carmila I wasn’t too impressed, so bugger it – on I went.

One of the sugar-cane trains that cross the main road:

The main run down the east coast of QLD is the Bruce Hwy. This is one lane in each direction with the occasional overtaking lane, and seemingly poorly maintained. Traffic today was bad – I don’t know how this compares with “normal”, but lots of road-trains, caravans, etc. It’s nice to know that QLD has the same people as WA that do just under the speed limit, accelerate in overtaking lanes to hold their position, and fail to consider anyone else on the road. It’s no wonder Bruce Hwy is considered so dangerous.

I’d been chatting to some folks in the caravan park a few days ago in Townsville and they mentioned Yeppoon as a good alternative to Rockhampton… so that was my destination.

Using “wikicamps” I headed to a recommended caravan park to setup and cook dinner. Fish & Chips across the road so that’s where the cooking finished.

I’m booked into the bike shop for my new rear tyre at 8am in the morning, so I’ll go there, have a look-see at Rockhampton, then return to Yeppoon for a look. I’m here for 2 nights so some washing today too.
