Day 25 – Universal’s Islands of Adventure

This is the second Universal Park located right next to the other one visited yesterday… about an extra 10 minutes walk away from the hotel.

No chances taken today – I performed the role of navigator, courier, & financier. In between I wandered about and just looked. I did actually wake this morning still bit feeling terribly well – I’m now thinking I might have a little bug.

The 2 children hit it running. An early retreat on my part left them to do as they please without concern for my well-being. First stop was Gringots in the first park from yesterday (cos they open earlier then the Islands of Adventure) so the kids could hit the ride again.20150118_154244

Then we hopped aboard the Hogwarts Express at platform 9 3/4 at King’s Cross Station. 20150119_085919

Even this simple little train ride to the Island Adventure park was an amusement ride, with story telling, animated windows, and Dementors. Each cabin was lined with displays that simulated your ride from London – most excellent.20150119_091509

At Island Adventure they hit the rides hard. 20150119_095214 20150119_095224 20150119_161349

2 days interacting with Braziilian tourists has allowed me to develop a very strong desire to show them what a real shirt-front is.

  1. pushing (I now push back – that’s fun coz I’m bigger than most of them);
  2. cutting across your path (I’ve learnt to trip them up when they do that – more fun);
  3. shouting in Portuguese (nothing I can do about that though); &
  4. worst of all – tour groups walking as a single mob through a crowd making it difficult for everyone else (I now cut my own path through the middle of their pack & break them up – see #1 & #2. Funny thing though – I see others doing the same. Hehe).

Those that they were keen on were done at least twice so we headed back to the first Universal Park visited yesterday to redo some more.

The end of the day was concluded by a lovely meal (the most I’d eaten since EPCOT 2 days ago) with Anne (Ellie’s best friend and exchange student from Delaware) & her partner Bob.

I remember Anne myself from school, & caught up with them both when I visited during my 3m stay in Philadelphia in 2003. It was certainly good to catch up again.
